The Department of Urology at Nepean Hospital has been accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Urological society of Australia and New Zealand as a training post in urological surgery. It is currently one of the most sought after training posts in Australia. The department has had trainees from all over Australia. Dr Arianayagam is currently the supervisor of training, who manages all teaching and training activities at the hospital. Roles include training assessments, supervision and teaching.
All eight consultant surgeons take a very active role in supervising and training to ensure the highest standard of care and excellent teaching for registrars rotating through the unit. At this time the department has one registrar in the final year of training as well as a fellow who is doing their last year of training having passed the final examination in Urology.
In addition to postgraduate teaching Dr Arianayagam is also involved with medical student teaching through the Nepean Clinical School of the University of Sydney. He also teaches students during their practical sessions when they rotate through the urology service at Nepean Hospital.
