Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms

In men with LUTS I would recommend the following prior to referral.

1. If LUTS seem obstructive ie related primarily to flow (reduced flow, terminal dribbling, incomplete emptying) I would suggest commencing them on an alpha blocker. They should have MSU, PSA and ultrasound with post void residual volume prior to referral
2.  LUTS related to storage problems (frequency, urgency, nocturia) should have MSU, PSA, ultrasound with post void residual volume AND time volume chart.
