Anaesthetists

Dr Arianayagam works closely with a small number of consultant anaesthetists who are all highly trained specialists. Anaesthetists are critical members of the team and without them surgery would not be possible. They keep the patient asleep, comfortable and still so that surgery can be formed safely. They also carefully monitor blood pressure and heart rates to ensure that the patients’ brain and other organs have enough oxygen. The anaesthetist is the reason that patients wake up with good pain control and their faculties intact.

Dr Paul Egan

Dr Paul Egan grew up in County Mayo (mid west Ireland), and graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland in 2000. After completing his internship in Beaumont Hospital Dublin, he moved to Sydney Australia. He completed his junior years at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where he gained great experience in a wide range of specialties.

He received his fellowship in anaesthesia after five years of training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. He currently has a public appointment at Liverpool Hospital and practices privately at Macquarie University, Norwest, Strathfield and Westmead Private Hospitals. His interests include anaesthesia for robotic surgery, peri-operative patient management and obstetric anaesthesia. His goal is to provide his patients with a painless and anxiety-free experience.

Outside of work, Dr Egan enjoys family time with his wife and four children, as well as reading about Irish history.


Dr Kent Douglas

My name is Dr Kent Douglas however I am not one for formalities and will always introduce myself as “Doug”. My aim is to provide high quality and safe anaesthesia for you during your surgery and try to minimise the pain and discomfort as much as possible afterwards. If you have any questions or concerns, I’ll be happy to discuss them with you when we meet before your surgery. I look forward to meeting you on the day of your procedure.



Dr Rob Newland

Dr Newland is a specialist anaesthetist who graduated BSc(Med) MB BS from the University of New South Wales in 1997. He commenced specialist training in 2001 having rotated through Nepean, Westmead, Tamworth and Orange Base Public Hospitals as well as Westmead Children’s Hospital.

He achieved his FANZCA in 2006. Dr Newland is currently accredited at Nepean Public, Blue Mountains Public and Nepean Private Hospitals. He is a member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists and the Australian Society of Anaesthetists. His special interests in anaesthesia include obstetric, orthopaedic, ophthalmic, colorectal and breast/endocrine anaesthesia.
